About Photo zines
A zine is generally a publication that helps people share their ideas and experiences in form of photography and art. It helps the artist connect with people who share similar interests and enables them to portray their ideas and concepts in a publication format. As I also work as a digital artist and illustrator, I’ve participated and bought several art zines from different fandoms and genres, that is why I was familiar to this concept prior to our image manipulation course. The only difference between this zine, and the ones I already own/ participated in is that ; this one involves photography and camerawork along with some editing. As I’ve only worked with digital artworks and drawings, making a zine that consisted of photographs was a very exciting thing to work on!

Categories for the Zine
The three categories I worked on to include in my photozine are
- Product Photography
- Portrait Photography
- Image Manipulation
‘ Product Photography’
Product photography basically shows photos that are taken and used on websites and social media platforms to help drive sales of the product or service. I personally like working with photographing objects and products so I thoroughly enjoyed doing this category. With the help of references and Pinterest boards, I came up with 5 images that showed product photography.
Theme:
The theme I chose for product photography is light and colourful. That is why I chose products that have gentle yet colourful tomes like yellow, pink and light blue.
Process:
Almost all of my images are not edited, this is because I liked the originality of his the photos turned out and didn’t use any colour corrections on them except for one picture, on which I had to correct the exposure and highlights because of the sharp lighting.

Behind The Scenes:
'Portrait Photography'
Portrait photography shows subject along with the background and lighting which evokes a sense of emotion and connection between viewer and photograph. Taking portraits was a bit challenging as I work better with objects and products rather than real models. I convinced my sister to be my model for the pictures. The pictures were taken in outdoor natural lighting.
Theme:
The theme I selected for the portraits is Fruits. I wanted something similar to match the colorful theme of my product photography.
Process:
The editing software I used to edit my pictures is not adobe photoshop, instead I used ' Procreate' , which is the most powerful and intuitive digital illustration app. It is available on iPad, and has features that are used by creative professionals. I have a lot of experience and practice working on Procreate and it made me edit my photos in a more professional way. I worked with various color masks and layer modes to add more vibrancy, like color dodge, Exclusion, Pin light, Overlay and Hue.
' Image Manipulation'
Photograph manipulation involves the transformation or alteration of a photograph using various methods and techniques to achieve desired results. I personally like more ' minimalistic' styles of manipulation, as i prefer more lighter and conceptual manipulation over heavy editing. Since we are allowed to have a lot of creative freedom in manipulation, I wanted to add my drawing in it as well. That is why I decided to merge one of the pictures and my drawing together.
